What’s a better way to kick off a new year and new goals other than completing a marathon?
Exactly. Not much.
The Miami Marathon and Half Marathon are almost here, and it’s an amazing way to jumpstart 2018. Imagine the high, the sense of accomplishment, and the satisfaction that’ll come from successfully completing one of the toughest challenges you can take on. It’s a feeling that’s unparalleled.
Here’s what to know about the upcoming marathon and what athletes and guests can look forward to come January 28th:
There will be a lot of people running this race, Miami. Don’t think it’ll just be you and your friendly neighbors. The race typically has more than 20,000 registered runners from both in and outside the country. For the states, New York has the (current) highest number of registrants, followed by Georgia and then Illinois. Colombia is in first place for countries, followed by Mexico and Costa Rica. Expect to run with the best from all over!
On the day of the race, it’s $80 to register for the marathon and $70 for the half marathon. Members of the military and Life Time members can run at a discounted price. Plus, if you get two of your running partners to sign up with you, you’ll get a SleepScore S+ sleep tracking system, which is valued at $150!
There are three separate races happening, and they’re each catered to different fitness levels and comforts. There’s the Tropical 5K, which is a 3.1-mile course that takes runners and walkers along the scenic MacArthur Causeway. Winners of the 5K will be awarded custom medals based on age groups.
There’s the half marathon, which is 13.1 miles of Miami views and accompanying music. The half marathon follows the exact same route as the full marathon for the first 12.8 miles. Winners will receive medals based on age groups as well as prizes for first, second and third place overall wins.
Finally, there’s the full marathon, which is a 26.2-mile journey around Miami. Runners will start at American Airlines Arena and explore the best of the city along the way. They’ll travel the MacArthur Causeway, Miami Beach, Venetian Causeway, Brickell, Little Havana, Coconut Grove and then finish strong at Bayfront Park. Completing such a challenge is a prize in itself, but like the half marathon, winners will be awarded by age group and again by the top 3 finishers.
The Miami Marathon and Half Marathon Expo will run from 12-7pm on Friday, January 26th. The Tropical 5K is at 7:30am on Saturday, January 27th, and the marathon and half marathon kicks off at 6am on Sunday, January 28th.
If you’re one of the many athletes coming to town for the race and need a nearby downtown Miami hotel, you’ve come to the right place. The Homewood Suites Brickell is conveniently located near the finish line, which is perfect for your post-race needs. Whether you want to crash or celebrate, the perfect stay in within reach.
Happy Running, Miami!
