The natives of Miami run the gamut in terms of culture, lifestyle and nationality. We have tourists flocking to the city every day for that specific reason. Well, tourists are also drawn to the beaches, the food and the beauty, but many come to experience the melting pot of heritage that naturally exists here. And every year in October, every year during Miami Broward Carnival, we celebrate another demographic.
The city transforms into an illuminating mixture of music, masks and tradition – all in honor of Caribbean culture. Most of the events are held at the Miami-Dade County Fairgrounds, but there are also parties, (J’ouvert, anyone?) events and other functions held throughout the city.
Here’s some of what you can expect during the festival:
Parade of the Bands, Noon-11pm
This all-day kick-off event features costumes, live music, food,s and naturally, a judging of the best bands.
The Steelbands and King, Queen and Individual Competitions, 5-11pm
Groups will compete for the renowned title of “Panorama Champion” at the Central Broward Regional Park Cricket Stadium. Individuals will also compete for best costume.
The Carnival Concert
Caribbean artists will put on a show for adoring crowds. Expect to dance to artists like Super Blue, Rikki Jai, Bunji Garlin and more.
Arts and Crafts
Guests can load up on their favorite carnival merchandise like jewelry, shirts, flags, paintings, and toys.
The Miami Broward Carnival kicks off Sunday, October 9th and is open to all people and all ages.
