It’s that time of year again: Florida Supercon, the largest comic convention in South Florida, is coming back.
This year’s Florida Supercon will be held at the Miami Beach Convention Center and the Fillmore Miami Beach’s Jackie Gleason Theater. The first time the event was held in 2006, it drew about 1,500 attendees and has grown steadily every year. In 2015, Florida Supercon drew more than 50,000 people to the event, according to their website.
The four-day event will begin on July 1 and span through the Fourth of July holiday. This years’ convention is packed with highlights that make the decision to go a no brainer.
William Shatner will be there along with several of his cast mates to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the long running science-fiction series Star Trek. Joining Captain Kirk will be Karl Urban, who played Dr. McCoy, Walter Koening, who played Pavel Chekov, and several others.
Stars from DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Doctor Who, The Walking Dead and Games of Thrones will also attend the convention. And for the first time ever, the convention will host a TRON reunion. Bruce Boxleitner “TRON”, David Warner “Sark”, Cindy Morgan “Yori”, and TRON Cinematographer Bruce Logan will all be there.
The 500,000 square foot space will host more than 700 booths and vendor tables. There will be three entertainment stages, video games and several rooms for panels, tabletop gaming and screenings.
Of course, there will also be multiple costume and cosplay competitions each day with thousands of dollars in cash prizes for winners.
